-Smokers' brains suffer at least 200 nicotine impacts everyday, what amounts to thousands of impacts every year. No other drug acts with such high intensity and magnitude; provoking damage practically to all body organs as much as nicotine. When we talk about the effects of tobacco smoking one immediately underscores the action of nicotine on the individual's health. However there are many other toxic substances that are detrimental to an individual's health, which are a direct result of the combustion of tobacco. At least 43 of these substances have been identified and are recognized as carcinogens (agents that cause cancer). Doctors believe that tobaccoism is responsible for 90% of lung cancer cases, 80% of chronic bronchitis cases and between 20 and 25% of "Angina" (Angina Pectoris - a recurring pain or discomfort in the chest that happens when some part of the heart does not receive enough blood) or infarct of the myocardium cases.
The smoking habit has been known to contribute significantly to the occurrence of mouth and esophagus cancer. Smoking has also been known to augment the chances of development of pancreas, bladder, kidney and stomach cancer. But it is not only smokers who are affected by the carcinogens that are released as a result of smoking: women show delays in their intra-uterine growth and children exhibit low weight on birth when they are exposed to second hand smoke from tobacco. The smoking habit is detrimental to the blood vessels in the legs directly contributing to the occurrence of hemorrhage in the legs. Obstruction of the blood vessels, which nourish the legs, can result, in extreme cases besides gangrene, amputation as the only solution.
